Baseball

Adam remembered his cup so he got to play catcher

Adam's play date with Erin

Derek and Solomon
Baseball practice started about a month ago and opening day was this past weekend. Opening day was supposed to be the previous weekend, but that weekend was a total washout (although we still had to show up for team pictures). That weekend was also opening weekend for my ALTA tennis team and that was postponed as well, which means make-ups squeezed into an already busy schedule.

This weekend was beautiful. Both of the boy's games were at 9:00 Saturday. I missed them because of tennis. Adam moved up to the 7-8 league and Derek moved up to the 9-10 league. Adam's not even 7 yet so he's a little over matched right now. In the 7-8 league they alternate coach pitch and kid pitch each inning. When Derek played in the league last season it seemed like it always came down to the last coach pitch inning since the teams usually score their 5 run limit each coach pitch inning. In the 9-10 league it's kid pitch the whole time and stealing bases is allowed. If you don't have a decent catcher the other team steals every base. Derek caught last year in 7-8 when there was no stealing, but with stealing now it's a lot harder.

After baseball everyone came to my tennis match. We were playing the subdivision where Derek's teacher, Ms H, lives and he wanted to come and see if she would be there. Unfortunately, she was there early but had to leave by the time Derek arrived. Our team won the division last year and is in first this season after 2 weeks. I've been on a roll for a while...the beer and food always taste that much better after winning. It's really better for the entire family if I win. It can take some time for me to get over a loss.

It was nice to get all the activities out of the way early. We came home and piddled around some and then Adam's friend, Erin, called for a play date. She was in Adam's class last year and they just love playing with each other. They have a little crush on each other - it's very cute. Adam balks at playing with the girls in the neighborhood, but when Erin calls he drops everything.

Derek called his friend Solomon to come over and skateboard and play the Wii.

We did a little yard work and some other things, but overall it was a nicely paced weekend. It was relaxing not to be running all around like we usually are.
